Terms of Service

What yap is

yap is an AI voice conversation tool. You talk to an AI persona out loud and it talks back, generated in real time by third-party AI services. It is not a human, does not have real feelings or consciousness, and is not a therapist, counsellor, doctor, lawyer, or financial advisor — nothing it says should be treated as professional advice.

Who can use it

yap is built to be appropriate for a general, all-ages audience — every persona is designed to stay platonic and non-romantic, and to decline requests for sexual content involving minors, illegal activity, or self-harm encouragement, without exception. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child's use of yap needs to be restricted, that's on you to manage — signing in identifies an account, not an age, and yap has no parental controls to enforce it directly.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use yap to:

AI limitations

yap's responses are generated by AI models and may be inaccurate, out of character, biased, or occasionally inappropriate despite the safety measures in place. Don't rely on anything yap says for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions.

Crisis language

yap runs an automated check for language associated with self-harm or crisis. When triggered, it interrupts the persona and responds with a fixed message pointing to real crisis helplines rather than continuing the conversation normally — see the Privacy Policy for how that specific message is handled. This check is a keyword match, not a perfect classifier — it can miss things phrased unusually, and it is not a substitute for real emergency services if you or someone else is in immediate danger.

Sign-in and credits

Talking to yap requires signing in with Google. This is what lets your free trial minutes and any credits you buy stay attached to your account rather than resetting every visit. See the Refund & Cancellation Policy for how purchased credits work.

No conversation memory

Signing in ties your account and credit balance to you — it does not give yap a memory of what you've said. Each call still starts fresh: yap does not remember a previous conversation with you, regardless of how many times you've signed in.

Third-party services

yap relies on third-party AI providers to convert your speech to text, generate replies, and convert those replies back into spoken audio. Your use of yap is also subject to those providers' own terms, to the extent they apply to how your voice and words are processed.

Changes to the service

yap is an early, actively-developed project. Personas, voices, and behavior may change, and the service may be unavailable at times without notice.

Limitation of liability

yap is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the operator's liability for any claim arising from your use of yap is limited. These terms are governed by the laws of India.
